PBIS
PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions And Supports) is a school wide behavior/discipline program that Flagstaff Junior Academy implements in every grade.
It became evident that FJA needed a school wide program, to ensure that all staff and students are essentially “on the same page” when it comes to student behavior and expectations in the classroom, at lunch/recess, in the hallways, at assemblies, etc. I think we can all agree that in order for students to learn, and to get the most out of their educational experience, a classroom and school need to be orderly and certain behavioral expectations must be met by all. That’s where this program comes into play.
A PBIS committee made up of several teachers was created to research programs that would fit into our school culture. PBIS was studied and a consensus was reached by the committee that it would be a constructive and positive program. PBIS will be a common part of every student’s vocabulary this year, and in the long run will allow students to learn more, and teachers to be more effective.
The purpose of this program is to teach students expected behavior, as opposed to simply expecting students to know what their teacher expects. This framework will allow students to reflect on behaviors, experience accountability, and through effort on their part, make the correct and expected changes. Thank you for your support.
